US (& even its allies) have been portrayed to be welcoming, or at least less unwelcoming. than China, which too have had an inbred commitment to hospitality . to the average foreigner. It straight up fixed Opus 4.6, and Opus 4.8 got more consistent in my subjective experience. Sadly there's nothing I can do about Anthropic's server side "system reminders" whenever some prompt trips their classifiers or whatever. I'm in the process of switching to OpenAI and Codex. The open source harness is a breath of fresh air. We'll see how that goes.

I really don't get what MS is doing here. They claim they care about Xbox, that they're going to turn the ship around, yet they cluelessly and carelessly laid off most of their best staff, all while raising prices multiple times and still not producing a coherent future roadmap. Any consumer or customer would look at this behavior pattern and think they are far too unstable to put their trust into. At this point it's time to call it for Xbox. I don't think they'll be around in six months time.

Cursor is a victim of its own success. Clearly the future is agents but the average user just wants them for a smarter tab completion. I also cancelled my subscription since I’m not particularly sold that I need a middle man between me and OpenAI / Anthropic.

Yeah as far as what I'm talking about bash CLI vs MCP doesn't matter (there could be a file_sample MCP tool)---I'm saying that by default Windows, Linux etc don't have this venetianblinds affordance of seeing equally spaced samples. It's a trivial algo but it's very handy these days cause LLMs can't really just be like 'okay I'm gonna open this file at random and scroll around'--the file itself is an unknown blob (JSON data, Python, Typescript, a log file etc) without coordinates. So they fall back to thinking they've gotten a good sense of the file from head/grep or they write ad-hoc Python to manipulate the file. I’ll never not be amazed that we can type some words and get those results back out. However I do agree that the results are much worse when you try to use them. They look great in screenshots and video clips which makes them perfect for content farmers. All of the LLM generated games I’ve played have been really bad to play, though. I even tried my hand at a simple game, thinking I could iterate on it with prompts to fix some rough edges. After the initial productivity burst every change turned into a slog of tokens with one thing changing and something else breaking it. I would try to use my remaining weekly token budget across Anthropic and OpenAI to refine it at the end of every week but after a couple weeks it felt like I wouldn’t be getting anywhere without scrapping it and going ba…

Just run Rust compiles in the cloud. Really, if you're using a SaaSS LLM like Claude or Copilot or ChatGPT, which already sends all your code to someone else's computer to run on a beefy GPU, they should just send the Rust code to the same datacenter and send you back a binary. Little shocked that Anthropic isn't offering this. Rust compile speeds will matter less and less as hardware gets faster.
