> I'm not aware of any common programs breaking into the terabyte category (even in most research) Wouldn't that be the commercial LLMs? ChatGPT, Claude etc are estimated to be in the 2-10 TB range, and a large portion of the population of developed countries are using those apps commonly. Not on their own systems, but if we're in the 1995 academic perspective, multiuser systems are assumed. I imagine the strongest reason we won't need 128-bit memory addressing is because horizontal scaling is easier. If OpenAI had needed a single addressing plane to cover all their users, 128-bit might be required. Similar to how the internet hobbles along fine with 32-bit addressing by just adding a layer of indirection to the internet with NAT. I guess the other example of 128-bit addressing is ZFS.…
Gen AI is at a point now where it can write good chapters. You still need a human editor to make it coherent, plug plot holes and tie it all together. So if you can write a good book, but can't write good chapters, a Gen AI ghostwriter is an ideal tool. Output quality will vary.
The problem is not about money it is that we are made massively culturally poorer by the flood of ahistorical, amoral, incoherent, rococco, contradictory yet plausible shit produced by LLMs. Both the internet and books have been flooded with ‘content’ which appears like human content but has no coherence or intention to it and tends to fall apart completely the longer form the story. Even our autocomplete is being infected with LLM suggestions, distorting and guiding how people write. This is a VERY significant problem for our culture long term.
LLMs are obsessed with hidden, never seen before goblins - I suspect this is why this story has been doing so well. https://openai.com/index/where-the-goblins-came-from/
Nielsen's proof is correct and verified by three AIs against OpenAI now.
A lot of people who know mathematics say Nielsen’s paper is riddled with errors. I regret sharing it here. > Undergrad who hasn’t passed his first semester yet Not sure what you’re talking about. According to his wiki bio he’s done two years at Cambridge. He posted Maths questions from the 1B tripos exam, and was smart enough to get an OpenAI internship. Whereas it seems like the author of this paper has never been hired anywhere by any company or institution — the "Center for Topological Physics" listed seems to exist only as a website.
"oof, written by AI, I be struck plumb dumb doH" - half the HN commentors, probably... --- Its really simple. Larry went long AF on OpenAI, and OpenAI can never be profitable. It isn't rocket science; it's first year finance.
You're not a mathematician and have no business being involved in this at all. The author the OP called a "Crackpot" graduated Valedictorian of University of Missouri at Kansas City. She provides detailed proofs in lean with correct labels. Grok, Claude, and Gemini have verified her proofs. Open AI Sol and above will not attempt to disprove a standing result from Open AI it's programmed not to and admits that, Nielsen showed it admitting that. OpenAI also admitted NIelsen's result is serious and merits consideration, despite the fact it's programmed not to acknowledge disproofs of OpenAI materials.
acerfur is an undergrad with zero experience. OpenAI hired him for slave labor. Can't possibly perform at this level, he has no background. Zip.
> I'll be happy to give OpenAI the keys to my phone if I had this feature. > Can somebodhy explain to me why this isn't implemented yet? My guess? Almost no-one is happy to give their phone keys to notoriously unreliable chatbots.
AI-written :( But if true the thesis as I understand is: Oracle is dependent on OpenAI, and so is on shaky ground. I skimmed the article but struggle to read through the Claude-isms to whatever it's trying to say. It's not as bad as some articles. I got lost at the end with the Israel stuff.
I am using ChatGPT voice on my phone and it's great. It even understands greek (my language). But it's jailed inside the phone. Why? Why can't it control my phone? Is it technical? I don't think so. Is it security? I'll be happy to give OpenAI the keys to my phone if I had this feature. Can somebodhy explain to me why this isn't implemented yet? If people from OpenAI are reading this, implement it now and get my money!!!
I read Rodney's past predictions on LLM's. There's not a _single_ one that was high information. Not a single one that made me go "hey this was actually a good call, it was very hard to catch that in hindsight". Almost all his predictions were low signal, just correcting the hype and doom from extremes. If I'm wrong, please show me one thing he said (almost everyone has one thing tbh but lets see) that would make everyone go: yeah this guy had foresight. Edit: he made some directional claims on LLM's: that they were so hyped that OpenAI was not even worth the $30 billion valuation in 2024[1]. It is now worth ~$1 trillion. For a pundit who puts his reputation on the line on single falsifiable claims like this, he has a really bad prediction pattern. Like, the one high signal claim he made …
> no details about the proof do you really imagine a scenario where OpenAI would claim to solve it and not give details about the proof? how is this even possible? why would anyone believe them?
You need to be signed in to a paid account + change the default thinking effort. I imagine that OpenAI will eventually roll out smarter models to the free unsigned version, but it's just a delay that also causes public perception delay
This whole discussion is a result of Claude using "Co-authored-by" as advertisement because it massively propagates the Claude logo to GitHub. As an advertisement strategy, this is extremely impressive. Unfortunately, it conflates what's meant by co-authoring. Because so far, Claude has not claimed sovereignty as an artificial intelligence, so actually, mentally crediting Claude is like crediting Vim or Emacs. We don't have to think of our tools as being authors just because Anthropic did. The Co-authored-by had a real meaning related to accountability. Putting our tool in front of us is like letting our cat drive the car. I mean, it's fine if it sits in our lap with the paws on the wheel wearing sunglasses. Just don't pretend it is the one deciding the direction, taking critical turns. B…
This part sounds like AI assisted setting this up and benchmarking it: >The fix was trivially simple: zero-pad the head count 12→16, run the fast kernel, and extract the real 12 heads from the output. I've recently used a frontier AI (ChatGPT 5.6 Sol on ultra) to set up a much smaller local model, and the performance optimizations it introduced left the model totally incoherent. (The model just repeats a single character, etc.) When I see a line like the one I just quoted, it leaves me wondering if the setup is still coherent like a stock install of Kimi K3 on supported hardware. Did they run any benchmarks on it to see if it is still correct?
To "solve it" would require either a single counter example disproving the claim, or a proof that the conjecture about the Riemann zeta function is true. If OpenAI claimed the conjecture to be true but provided no details about the proof then the first comment should absolutely be about lack of transparency.
Ok are you one of those people whose first reaction to such a news is “this is just marketing for OpenAI and we need transparency”? In that case you are just interested in culture wars and not results.
> the return on investment is going to come from having the largest mind control machine the world has even known This is what Google already was and continues to be. They didn't need OpenAI and Anthropic as foils to maintain that position or expand Google Cloud. If anything, they did all this work with Gemini despite what's happening on the sidelines. OpenAI secured their multinational defense contract with Project Stargate. I can easily see the extremely high demand to get rid of so many contractors with security clearances. No government believes that the risk of another Snowden-like whistleblower is worth the mediocre intelligence summaries. The loser will be Anthropic unless Microsoft buys them out for a lowball price at the last minute in an attempt to make Copilot less terrible.…
Methodology: HN Search returns recent public items matching a monitored company name. AIIStack stores a short normalized excerpt and the original link, deduplicates by company/provider/item ID, and creates an activity signal only after a threshold of newly observed records. Review the original discussion before making a decision.
