Or "fukashima", which I think also rules out an AI editing pass at the end. That said, the smell of Claude specifically is pervasive in that comment. Perhaps someone who's ingested a bit too much Anthropic output?

The AI Credit Resale Economy

Generally speaking, B2B prices are rarely supply-and-demand priced in the usual sense. YC has advised startups in the past that it's easier to sell a single $100k customer than 100 $1k customers. It would also be relatively surprising to learn that i.e. the Chinese providers are OOMs better at inference than OAI/Anthropic (like their prices would imply if they were in a perfectly competitive market).

GPS and the Lost Art of Getting Lost

It’s interesting to think of the way experiences go away, in this context. You can get lost if you want nowadays, but it is pretty rare to get lost if you don’t want to. Now you get lost because you intentionally didn’t check the map or because you intentionally didn’t ask for directions, and you have the fallback GPS. In the past, a well-planned trip included landmarks or other opportunities to recover from getting lost, and might not have gotten too far from the familiar. And you got lost in a world where most gas stations had maps and asking for/giving directions was totally common. IDK. Getting lost in the past was 99% annoying anyway so I’m not going to write anything nostalgic about the lost magic of it, or whatever. It’s funny to think that it can’t really be replicated, thoug…

Software Engineering fundamentals matter more

> With generated code, the directory structure, interface design and general state management is usually a haphazard mess. Even with the best frontier models. But what really gets me is the model often tries to make assumptions for me that I didn't specify in the prompt. As always it's a usage problem, specifically you aren't pre-feeding it a large enough sample of reference code that it can use for context. I have a custom functional DSL that I prefeed the BNF + about few thousand lines of code and it has no problem writing it, in almost the same style as the reference. Literally point your model to a reference repo as say "read this entire repo and replicate the codestyle + directory structure exactly".

AI Can Now Design Functional Viruses. Should We Worry?

I can't even find a coherent argument here. You're claiming simultaneously: 1. People adopt beliefs in order to stand out (your article) 2. Everyone seems to believe in the doom narrative, but not you (you stand out!) 3. You've been optimistic for years now, I suppose suggesting that doomerism is a more novel and therefore less credible belief? Despite AI risk being a robust field of literature, philosophy, and research for almost 200 years? Can you articulate why the prior innovations that were supposed to liberate people from all of the above failed to do so, but AI finally will? Interestingly, the cotton gin actually dramatically increased the use of chattel slaves. The world isn't as simple as "more technology = liberation." Industrialization writ large pushed people into far worse wo…

There's a huge range of cost-per-task variation across models, and the capability of the smaller cheaper models keeps increasing. For example, here we have Fable 5 at $3.14/task vs Kimi K3 at $0.84/task, with very little difference between them in coding capability (and this isn't even a coding/agentic fine tune of Kimi). https://artificialanalysis.ai/models We now have models like Qwen 3.8 27B, small enough to run locally, with coding capability similar to Opus 4.5 based on challenging tasks like the Anthropic Kernel challenge. I think we are rapidly getting to the "good enough" stage of LLMs, just like we did long ago with PCs. A cheap PC/LLM is all you need for 99.9% of normal use cases. Maybe nothing can touch whatever latest greatest models Anthropi…

We need laws that make Apple's business model illegal. No more walled gardens, including game consoles. If you sell a Universal Machine (or product containing a Universal Machine), then the owner/purchaser/leasee must have full control of the Universal Machine. Just like the laws against bad cars are called "Lemon Laws," call these new laws against bad Universal Machines "Apple Laws." Forever memorialize AAPL in this negative light to warn its future successors what happens when you act in anti-customer ways even when technically not illegal to do so. By the same logic, we could also use "Anthropic Laws" to curb the nanny-moralism of model guardrails too!

It's really common in China where OpenAI and Anthropic models are firewalled. There was a joke that Chinese people didn't realize how cheap DeepSeek was, because they already were using resold ChatGPT/Opus tokens at that price. Here is a more detailed article about how it works: https://www.chinatalk.media/p/how-to-buy-cheap-claude-tokens...

So thinking this through to come up with your numbers, total investment through 2027 is ~$2T and interest on debt is over 7%, which makes servicing this ~$140B/yr. However, failure rates on H100-B300 installed HW have been over 12%/yr even as the power and cost efficiency per token of the later builds has risen ~5x. So depreciation on the data centers is conservatively $240B/yr ignoring power costs (likely only $30B/yr at $0.05/kWh). Conveniently, this is $20B/month and if 5% of the population uses it, that's only 400million people so it's $50/mo or $600/yr, only if the AI-vendors make zero profit and $100/mo if they make 50% margins. Realistically, the OpenAI and Anthropic go to zero or it's $600/year. I don't know where the 5% of world p…

Kimi Work attaches raw agent sessions to feedback reports

> when you send a feedback report, it attaches the 5 latest sessions to the report with no notice or heads up or anything. Not informing the user of that feels wrong, and even then you'd probably want like a dropdown to choose between just the current session vs the last 5 if that much context is really needed, with either Off or 1 being the default. Claude Code has a clear disclaimer, probably exactly how it should be done: > Submitting this report will send the entire current conversation to Anthropic for future improvements to our models. It's also unclear wherever the subscription price is the real cost, or the API. I suspect it's closer to the sub price and anthropic is just milking their API users, but that's something you'd only know from the inside

Claude: System Prompts

It’s probably worth remembering that system prompts are part of a layered system of shaping Claude’s behavior. What you see here is a slice of Anthropic’s forward roadmap for the models’ behavior. > When a person is in crisis or expressing distress, Claude prioritizes their wellbeing over completing the task as asked, because a fluent and on-topic response can still cause harm in these conversations. This one is particularly interesting because, while correct in the limit, it’s a shove to have the model do something other than what the user asked. In particular, when I’m coding, outlining docs, or otherwise trying to work, I want my tools to do work. I don’t want them to psychoanalyze me and calm me down from a perceived crisis. I just want it to do what I asked!

The AI Credit Resale Economy

A common refrain is that oh there are such great margins on tokens that none of this matters… I wonder how long until that notion will be disavowed? The scale of the tokensnaffling is massive, not just from resale, but also people using multiple subscriptions. The amount of subsidization is only growing, every week it seems like OpenAI and Anthropic are doing “resets” which allow a single $200 subscription to incur $20k+ of usage (if billed at API rates). At some point we must all surely accept that the economics of this do not work.
