I'm the founder of Scalattice, this is my second company, third total product. I'm a 2x founder building some challenging software, some easy software, and some curiosity based tools that I've just always wanted to be a part of! So here is Scalattice. Scalattice is an OpenAI-compatible inference API. You keep the OpenAI SDK, swap base_url + API key, and call open models (Qwen3, Llama 3.3 70B, Gemma 3, DeepSeek R1, etc.). Inference is performed by a provider node on our distributed network of consumer hosted inference machines, we run an open source agent ( https://github.com/scalattice/scalattice-agent ) which works in Rust to run the inference and get the provider paid. In short, anyone can become a provider, offer up their machine with our Windows/Linux Rust age…
Last week Yelp licensed 330M reviews to OpenAI. ChatGPT now recommends local businesses and lets users request quotes right in the chat. Which means a whole new channel of warm leads is about to hit small businesses that are already terrible at responding quickly. We built an AI receptionist that answers calls for small businesses. When the Yelp/ChatGPT deal dropped, we extended it to auto-respond to Yelp leads too. 15 seconds vs the industry average of 4 hours. Curious if anyone else is building around AI-generated leads as a category.
Debian Airport is debating whether to allow aircraft to land on autopilot. On the one hand it’s nice that autopilot gives more people the chance to fly, and it lets experienced pilots fly more often. On the other hand, Debian Airport has, to date, been run by a carefully curated club of “stick and rudder” pilots. It’s a club where the air safety is backed up by nothing more than the name and reputation of the pilot coming in to land. What if Claude goes down on approach? Or you run out of OpenAI tokens just before touchdown? What’s the point of having a named pilot if the control of the aircraft is in someone else’s hands, in part or in whole? With actual pilots you have to take an exam and pass a practical test to prove you are competent. It’s a part of the analogy that could apply well …
it's not just social science, even AI papers that would be trivial to replicate dont
> U.S. policymakers believe that even if the gap is small—like six months to a year—whoever reaches AGI first... From past experience, AGI was never seriously discussed in these kinds of conversations beyond thought experiments, and was basically humoring SBF, Daniela Amodei, and the other EA types (some deep believers, but some who I felt were cynically using it as a way to preempt competition back when OpenAI and Google were the behemoths). The big worry is applications of AI in C4ISR, OffSec, loitering munitions, Disinfo/social media botting (notice the recent shift towards identification on social media ;)), and other sorts of DefenseTech adjacent usecases. The second worry is that an AI race turns into an infra buildout race, and HPC is extremely dual use, especially in the s…
> You want to sue them or something? I mean, if this were an american company vs an american company, i think it would be a long drawn out civil case and brought before the Supreme Court (I still this is ultimately will be brought before the supreme court). It could also be argued frontier models are far more important to national security than most military programs, even versus next gen fighter jets. The fact that Alibaba stock, which is also listed on the NYSE, barely budged after Anthropic made these claims imo tells me that the market doesn't think that a lone american company could go after these companies by themselves. Alibaba denied and there's not much they can do alone, I mean would the CCP allow Alibaba go through a discovery process of a normal civil trial? It might have t…
I'm reminded of this section of a Douglas Adams quote: "Anything that, in happening, causes itself to happen again, happens again." I like how this is not even specific to life nor genes, and it's not hard to add to it the idea of happening-again in ways that make the thing better-or-worse at happening again. Personally I think this applies to all coherently-causal systems.. still trying to figure out whether to believe QM is fully causal or not! (Currently seems like it might be a mixture?)
That's not necessary. Sometimes we make choices and we feel the need to justify them in vivid flamewars regardless of how arbitrary. Vi vs emacs or amd vs intel, now anthropic vs openai. We love to take sides, to belong to a small community of peers, no?

This tool doesn't seem to work very well. I tried to run it against my own harness that uses the Anthropic SDK(s) in Go and it turns up nothing. It doesn't seem to understand Go code?
We want more control, not less. This (among many others) is the reason I use GPT over Claude. It adheres very closely to your instructions and rules. You can build up your own workflows and systems as a result. Claude just does whatever it wants, regardless of what you tell it. It's a miserable experience. Claude is what you use when you want to one-shot a simple cookie-cutter product that has no nuance in it. A product that everyone else is going to develop as well. ChatGPT is what you use when you want bespoke products and steerability over complex codebases with nuanced decision making. Anthropic are optimizing for the person who has never written a line of code in their life and has no idea what they want. Computer go brrrr. OpenAI are optimizing for software developers who want to ta…

What’s the end goal for Cloudflare and the web here? I don’t think ADOG (anthropic, deepmind, openai, google) is going to pay to crawl. What would force their hand? It’s more likely they’ll strike undisclosed agreements with major sources of discussion like reddit etc. That’s not to say getting new information as a way of context-providing is not going to happen but that’s not scraping.

There are coding tasks where Kimi K3 outperforms Fable (haven't done much comparing between it and Sol) and the Chinese labs have access to their own synthetic datasets, along with frontier research. We're leaving behind the days where Chinese models are distilled Claude, but I hope Anthropic/OpenAI can continue to accelerate.

Playing devils advocate, does from scratch really matter if all frontier labs are training off each other anyways? Practically speaking, businesses/consumers just care about lowest inference cost for maximizing intelligence anyways (not to mention Anthropic/OpenAI forcing KYC/litigation barrier trash for access to any cybersecurity/IT capabilities) that I literally just cancelled Claude today. Yeah it’s sad the CCP has my information. But it’s either them or the feds, and at least Chinese models actually work for cybersecurity tasks, not to mention aren’t stupid expensive Artificialanalysis.ai rn on opus 5 is a joke. The main intelligence benchmarks it is like 1% better than Fable, but the cost difference between that and K3 is so funny lol. It’s the same with cars— yo…

there's a lot of propganda from these state backed enterprises. I think the fraction of the cost label is debatable given the evidence of mass gpu smuggling through third parties like Singapore which China can't exactly openly admit to. Unless of course we're talking about distilling, which is probably a lot cheaper than training a model from scratch (there's also the fact that labour is still relatively cheap in China compared to the US which may or may not matter e.g. Anthropic claim against Alibaba > The campaign allegedly used nearly 25,000 fraudulent accounts to run 28.8 million exchanges with Claude between April and June 2026 (although their campaign could have been in part or all automated via agents, not sure)
Methodology: HN Search returns recent public items matching a monitored company name. AIIStack stores a short normalized excerpt and the original link, deduplicates by company/provider/item ID, and creates an activity signal only after a threshold of newly observed records. Review the original discussion before making a decision.
