All of what you said is totally wrong and deluded. The amount of money Nvidia has put into the ecosystem is much, much less than money coming into the ecosystem from actual customers who are willing to pay for the products! The idea that somehow Nvidia is financing the entire AI industry is laughable. The numbers do not add up at all if you look at the numbers of people paying for Google cloud GPU compute, AWS GPUs, Azure GPUs, Nebius, Coreweave, etc, not even including companies like Fireworks, BaseTen, Together AI, etc . The reality is this, enterprise companies are spending HUGE amounts of their money on AI products because they are gaining value from them. If you require consistency for research, I wouldn't recommend relying on hosted inference without validating the provider/inference stack very carefully. For my contribution to OpenAI's gpt-oss red-teaming competition (published as arXiv:2510.01259), I initially used OpenRouter with DeepInfra and Together AI. The results were much too noisy to draw reliable conclusions from, and markedly different behavior through AWS Bedrock was the last straw. I ended up renting GPUs through vast.ai and running the model myself with vLLM.

And since you're not running those GPUs efficiently at 95% utilization rates or higher to serve tokens profitably, you paid far more than the people who simply pay per token from Together AI or Fireworks AI or something. They also get ZDR/session privacy. If you're really tin-foil hatted, you can go to a TEE cloud like Alpha Compute or something which is probably safer/more secure than your own computer. You're very right to be wanting to use open sourced models. You're delusional for thinking that buying your GPUs directly saves any money. You are not a cloud service provider, don't act like one.

Bad analogy. In GH you have to press the buttons at the exact time that is prescribed and you're scored on that. With AI there is no such prescribed goal. The world is your oyster. You can use it in boring ways, but you can use it in immensely creative ways too. You can chain together AI agents, image generators, video generators, 3D asset generators, computer vision models, text embeddings etc. etc. and prompt all the orchestration into existence with your ideas, taste and direction. It's the opposite of a constrained game. Boring people use it in boring ways, interesting people use it in interesting ways. The rest is old man yells at cloud, like how people criticized "laptop music" or photography.

Yes, something I read just before it was released suggested that, because of the unique features of the model, there was a back and forth of Hugging Face, Moonshot and providers like Together AI and Fireworks AI.
