Tonic AI ( https://tonic.ai ) builds the data infrastructure behind modern AI. We generate the synthetic environments that agents are trained and tested in, and we de-identify real enterprise data so it can be used safely in training and evaluation. Eight years in, we work with frontier AI labs pushing the edge of what models can do, and with hundreds of enterprises including Fidelity, Comcast, eBay, and Vanguard, on the data problems that sit at the center of where AI is going next. We are looking for a data scientist with 8+ years experience (or 3+ with relevant PHD). In this role you will: ++ Design and build the systems that generate longitudinally coherent synthetic environments for agent training and evaluation, including persona modeling, task generators, and verifiable g…

The Future, Made in China

"A republic, if you can keep it". The "the trajectory of the US on a 'Chinese timescale'" barely even registers. While the CCP might not be that old, China considers itself an ancient society with a level of historical coherence that makes the United States rather insignificant as a lesson in political history. You've offered a hugely reductive and rosy view of American history. Democracy is easy until it gets hard. America has fought a civil war before. The Congress basically does not function anymore ergo the "imperial presidency". The balance of powers the framers created when the country was a sparsely populated periphery of 3 million people has changed dramatically. George Washington rejected a partisan affiliation and regarded it as a societal disease. He was elected unanimously. Wi…

The Future, Made in China

The percentage of China's GDP that is dependent on foreign demand (15.7%) is the second lowest among major economies. The only major economy that is lower is the US at 9.0%, which is an extremely outlier.[0] By many OECD economic metrics[1] around trade dependence, the US and China consistently rank as the least trade dependent. This reflects the scale of the countries, diversity of the economies, and an intentional strategy of minimizing trade dependence for GDP growth. This last point is central to geopolitical leverage. Even if you treat the EU27 as a single trade entity, which operates at similar scales, there is little evidence of a coherent strategy to become functionally self-sufficient. A lot of geopolitical relevance is downstream of this. [0] https://x.com/Jonatho…

Prevent cognitive debt by manually retyping LLM-generated code

The point is that you have to have an idea of what it has access to in its context. Many expect it to work like an omniscient genie and then give up once it turns out that it can't read your mind and you have to be able to halfway-coherently state what you want.

Qwen3.8-Max: A New Bar for Coding and Cowork

If k3 is open-weight (and it's available on hugging face [1]), how could they force providers to sing an extra (secret) licensing agreement? Edit to answer my own question: License file [2] states: > If the Licensee or any of its affiliates operates a Model as a Service business, and the aggregate revenue of the Licensee and its affiliates exceeds 20 million US dollars (or the equivalent in other currencies) in total over any consecutive 12 months, the Licensee must enter into a separate agreement with Moonshot AI before using the Software or its derivative works for any commercial purpose. How China Keeps Tabs on Foreigners

You are playing the generic tangent game here. I wish I could replicate how PP makes his points, but here I think he doesn't give it enough credit. US (& even its allies) have been portrayed to be welcoming, or at least less unwelcoming. than China, which too have had an inbred commitment to hospitality . to the average foreigner. The reality on the ground is generally the opposite. Chinese law enforcement (especially urban) is mostly hands-off, aloof. The powers behind the scenes have different ideas, but they have limited influence on how things play out in everyday detail. This is the same in the US but NYT feel like it is in their interest to muddy the waters. Vibes are a big part of why I admittedly despise the [soft-elitist] centre (left and right) in the US (& "North-Central Europe…

Developers are attached to tools because tools encode trust

> and even every day as the vendor tweaks the system prompts I just patched Claude Code's system prompts, pinned the version and stopped upgrading without first dissecting and auditing the executable. Even discovered Anthropic can remotely inject strings into the system prompt via some "growth book" or something. Neutralized that too. Things got a lot better after I started doing that. It straight up fixed Opus 4.6, and Opus 4.8 got more consistent in my subjective experience. Sadly there's nothing I can do about Anthropic's server side "system reminders" whenever some prompt trips their classifiers or whatever. I'm in the process of switching to OpenAI and Codex. The open source harness is a breath of fresh air. We'll see how that goes.

Microsoft raises Xbox prices by up to 43%

I really don't get what MS is doing here. They claim they care about Xbox, that they're going to turn the ship around, yet they cluelessly and carelessly laid off most of their best staff, all while raising prices multiple times and still not producing a coherent future roadmap. Any consumer or customer would look at this behavior pattern and think they are far too unstable to put their trust into. At this point it's time to call it for Xbox. I don't think they'll be around in six months time.

AIIStack stores a short normalized excerpt and the original link, deduplicates by company/provider/item ID, and creates an activity signal only after a threshold of newly observed records.
