Testing Claude-designed proteins in the wet lab

Hey, Julian here, CEO & Cofounder of Adaptyv (adaptyvbio.com). We run an automated wet lab for testing AI-designed proteins. Anthropic benchmarked their newest Claude models on protein engineering tasks, and we at Adaptyv ran the wet lab work behind it. They picked 16 targets from our past protein design competitions on Proteinbase (proteinbase.com) and sent us an anonymised list of designs, so we had no idea which model produced which sequence. We then ran those protein designs through our automated wet lab workflow to characterize protein expression and binding affinities. Here are the results: - 95% of the designs expressed, which three years ago would have been the headline on its own. That matches the best expert expression rates from our competitions - 354 of 1,320 designs bound the…

Claude Code May–August 2026 weekly limits promotion

I have the $100 plan on OpenCode Zen, which I imagine is similar. I burn through it ridiculously fast. I haven't run the numbers, but it felt about the same as an Anthropic $20 plan

Fairphone is now officially available in the United States

Fairphones continue to have awful updates, privacy and security. /e/ sending user speech data to OpenAI without consent for years never had anything to do with why Fairphones don't meet our requirements. https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=49354807

Pacing model development in an era of cyber-critical capabilities

GLM 5.2 scored 77% on cyberbench vs Sol's 88%. GLM 5.2 is open weight and any hacker with a powerful enough machine can use it offensively. If Sol is supposedly world-ending-ly dangerous, shouldn't GLM 5.2 be 90% of world-ending-ly dangerous? Why aren't we seeing catastrophic GLM-enabled hacks every day now? Obviously these benchmarks are imperfect but general message holds. The open weight models are almost as good and yet there hasn't been a catastrophe. It just blows my mind that regulate-now folks think that a bunch of sci-fi movies and 100% unverified statements from OAI and Anthropic are sufficient evidence of imminent catastrophe to regulate willy nilly. If that's the level of evidence you need to be extremely alarmed, then you really should be a lot more worried about the alien in…

GLM-5.3 Artificial Analysis Benchmarks

If anything, it's going to be more expensive. Price/performance ratio isn't there yet for frontier open weight models. But regardless, you definitely should use a harness where switching models on the fly is easy. There's a reason why Anthropic uses their own proprietary formats/conventions anywhere they can - to lock you in when inference eventually commoditizes.

GLM-5.3 Artificial Analysis Benchmarks

I use the $200 plan w/ Anthropic and run out of tokens half way through the week and supposedly they are progressively reducing the limits on all their subs even further. At some point I will switch, $200 buys a lot of tokens on OpenRouter.

Pacing model development in an era of cyber-critical capabilities

If these models are so dangerous, then why hasn't OAI or Anthropic shown them dangerously escaping sandboxes, nefariously coordinating with other escaped AIs, and skillfully hiding from human detection *in public* with full logs shared where we can all see exactly how dangerous they are or aren't? Right now the entire chicken-little-sky-is-falling argument is based entirely on statements from OAI and Anthropic themselves. These are historically conflicted companies who desperately need regulation to put the competition into stasis. At least chicken little didn't have a bunch of devious CEOs with trillion dollar IPOs that depended on us all believing the sky is falling.

On AI regulation and messaging

You're not asking me, but I want to say that there is nothing Anthropic or any other AI company can do to make me trust them other than to dissolve and give up their ambitions and do something else. Then maybe, after seeing genuine contrition and humility I would trust them to do something else. But likely not. After all they've done, they should accept that a permanent loss of trust is a reasonable consequence. They should lose their influence, position, and money. They should live the rest of their lives as ordinary people, unable to ever again cause mass harm to others, and they should be grateful to be forgiven, and allowed such a humble opportunity. My answer to their proposal for what our society should look like, and what kind of technologies we should use is "no". It's not a trust…

I just cancelled my Max 5x plan. I was already mad at the limits, now Anthropic says it will get worse ? Nah, thanks.

Who owns the code?

I don't really understand this, I was trained on all the knowledge I was capable of ingesting, but my outputs are largely mine unless there is too much similarity to a copyrighted work. I don't understand why AI would be different. When I do work for hire, my employer owns it, roughly equivalent to me paying Open AI/Anthropic for output.

Anthropic's ‘watermark’ text adulteration in Claude is a perversion of writing

Update: https://x.com/mrcslws/status/2089850106292162982 Pasted below: Finally convinced myself that non-distorting watermarking is real, a la Anthropic / Google SynthID. It's not just spin / marketing. This really is a "Monty Hall" like problem. (h/t @random_walker for that analogy.) Sharing here in case it helps anyone else. On one hand, watermarking is "obviously" damaging to the output. The LLM does all this work to compute token probabilities... then you essentially perturb the probabilities? Of course that's bad! Every single token is using perturbed probabilities! On the other hand, you obviously can freely inject a layer of randomness into sampling. Take any categorical distribution. For each sample, perturb the probabilities, then draw the …

Pacing model development in an era of cyber-critical capabilities

I don’t get how this is not the top post on HN. This should be like alarm bells going off, canary in the coal mine type of stuff. We’re hitting the frontier of the frontier where we can’t go further because it’s literally getting dangerous to go further. And meanwhile somehow this lack of concern mirrors the real world where normal people are more concerned about data centers than terminators. This isn’t like niche, tin foil hat stuff either. People have been writing, singing, making blockbuster movies about every aspect of what’s going on right now, edit: for decades. We all know, but somehow we don’t, OpenAI autonomously hacking into another company should have counted for something, but I guess not. Anyone else feel like they’re taking crazy pills? I could make a comedy about everythin…

Memory prices climb 500% in 12 months

> I think Leopold of "situational awareness" fame predicted this, tried to make it widely known on podcasts and x, and still started billions worth of hedge funding based on this. Ironically enough it's because of its bet on RAM companies that all of Situational Awareness' publicly trading stocks got bought by the highest bidder (Citadel) when the (leveraged) shit hit the proverbial fan and Situational Awareness created a hole of tens of billions. Situational Awareness was not forced to sell its share in Anthropic for, by contract, investors in Situational Awareness have no right to force the sale (before this month of September I think) of shares in companies not publicly trading yet. Citadel bought those RAM stocks right at the end of July, during the dip. Amazing timing for for exam…

Their quarterly revenue looks exactly the same. It's literally the same data. Annualized revenue can be gamed when it is fluctuating. It can't really be gamed when it is growing exponentially for three years straight. There's nothing to cherry-pick. https://www.cnbc.com/2026/08/15/anthropic-revenue-jumps-to-o...
