I strongly disagree with the assumption that GitHub's alternative is another centralized forge. Git itself is perfectly decentralized, as was the original Linux kernel development process. How people managed to put all their eggs in one intermittently available service is beyond me. Moving the eggs into another bucket is not a solution (like Microsoft is short of servers). The SPoF is the problem. There are plumbing, porcelain and "github" layers. The "github" part has to be decentralized as well. I don't see a lot of societal level problems other than the labor market, for which both Anthropic and OpenAI create research, monitoring, and policy advice. I don't think anyone will care about the largely made up issues about electricity prices or water use in case AI literally cures cancer.

They also sell the machinery to produce the slop (through OpenAI at least). If they make it harder to push slop on github, people might treat it as an incentive to generate less slop. Less tokens sold. Bad. Very bad. The github paying customers are not going to move away. Plus, it's probably genuinely hard to scale. And they can't throw compute at the problem - all compute is already going to the LLMs.

Whole story up to the context limit. Then it starts dropping stuff. But I didn't want auto dropping or auto summaries like what other tools do. I like to be strategic summarize the correct places when the context gets full. There is a request inspector that shows everything that is sent. I'm experimenting with prompt ordering strategies as well. this is surprisingly complext when you take into account the different model providers. For example local models usually do a different form of prompt caching than for example openai and anthropic

The acquisition makes no sense, as most LLM providers only reason not to forbid them right now, is because they were funded by exactly the same VCs as the providers. Go check. Of all the no moats they are the example of no moat . Its seconds switch to another router if even that is tolerated. And lets not even talk, the lack of compliance in an enterprise environment, and as they defer to providers on that... But the acquisition makes a LOT of SENSE, if you realize that as the same VCs sit on Stripe, Anthropic, OpenAI and most important OpenRouter.
