Here, if this is just misrepresentations and logical fallacies than it should be easy to explain the main point away: How are OAI and Anthropic reasonably and reliably going to make the profits they need to to hit these targets? By Q1 2028: OpenAI ≳ $10B/month Anthropic ≳ $10B/month Combined ≳ $20B/month / $240B ARR By 2029, according to their own projections: OpenAI ≈ $184B/year Anthropic ≈ $174B/year Combined ≈ $358B/year And remember, this is also in competition with open models that are increasingly encroaching on SOTA capabilities while costing less and allowing you to do more.
Here's from a VC: https://x.com/bryce/status/2080766415716692385 "Have lost count of the number of CEOs I’ve talked to this week that are planning to be moved off OAI and Anthropic entirely by years end."
Previously posted to Anthropic's blog in October. (Maybe not the same version?) https://www.anthropic.com/research/introspection
I think it interesting that Bakalar was at Meta for six years before joining OpenAI. A lot changed across the industry in those six years, and in the meantime I wouldn't be surprised if all Bakalar learned was how to play Meta politics.
I don't really have any particular disdain for AI ethics. I think the field is changing from one of high theory to high application. People good at one are not usually good at the other, and says nothing about OpenAI's view of AI ethics as a priority...merely the people in the field and how they relate to the greater industry.
> The people in AI ethics who spent years thinking their job was marketing or publishing thinkpiece papers may be having to adapt quickly or get out of the field. Your disdain is showing. That you jump immediately to criticizing AI ethicists as counting angels on pins and implying that's why they left OpenAI rather than OpenAI not being a place where AI ethics is a priority is, well, let's say generous to these AI labs.
it weaves an imperceptible watermark directly into the text itself. You won’t see it, and it doesn’t change the meaning, quality, or readability of Claude’s response That's John Gruber quoting Anthropic. Gruber's completely correct on this one. Either there's non printable Unicode characters, or the word choice is biased, and the Anthropic statement is lies. Does Anthropic really think they can claim magic and everyone will just accept it, or have they spent too long communing with Mr Flattery and can no longer distinguish reality from fantasy?
Agreed. This is what happens when you confuse token counts with byte counts. A trivial test through tiktoken [1] ( though technically you really have to match the tokenizer to the specific LLM ) would have shown them that ∅ was a poor choice. Even from the perspective of learned training data, you can probably just intuit that from a frequency standpoint alone the empty-set symbol ∅ can’t possibly have appeared that often outside of things like set theory and logic. They also don’t appear to consider false positives. Pretty famously, false positives make some other Anthropic products unusable. If you treat them as zero cost it’s easy to drive down miss rate.
Yes, a GUI. There are various terminal multiplexers out there, but OpenAI wants you to use theirs.
Interesting how everyone seems to be following OpenAI on UX. When I used Antigravity and they suddenly switched to Codex type UI I was very annoyed because I kept checking if this is Codex or Antigravity. Either way, I still don't think that computer use is solved. It worked horribly on Codex and Antigravity the last time I tried. Maybe I was doing something wrong.
How do they stop providers (like Amazon, etc.) from detecting and blocking these agents if they are running on cloud? I know that openai wasn't able to avoid this which is why they moved to 'computer use' on your local machine. I almost wonder if this is a place where SpaceX, as an internet provider through starlink, has a unique advantage because websites are unable to block their networking as it could be residential starlink consumers.
I see no contradiction. GPT as synonym for AI and llama as symbol for open weights models. The original comment said llama had set something off in the open weights community. And I say you see that with llama.cpp, llamaindex, r/localllama. No one bothered to update them to qwen.cpp or qwenindex. And they were never localgpt or gpt.cpp. Culture and language use says a lot about importance of ideas. Regardless of what was first or what some scholar sees as historically more important.
Nice - I've been considering re-subscribing to OpenAI to try out their new models. This is just the push I needed. Looking forward to trying it on Fedora 44.
Right now we use a special algorithm to rephrase the submitted text without changing or losing meaning. Once Anthropic documents how to detect the watermark itself work to remove it more surgically can commence.
Methodology: HN Search returns recent public items matching a monitored company name. AIIStack stores a short normalized excerpt and the original link, deduplicates by company/provider/item ID, and creates an activity signal only after a threshold of newly observed records. Review the original discussion before making a decision.
