Maybe, but the friend list is already exhausted and "cool looking" people tend to not like the idea of you hiring them just because they look cool. Hence diversity hiring: It became understood that attractive women would get the "ick" if you told them that you were hiring them only because they were attractive women, so there had to be cover for as to why they were suddenly getting hired where they previously weren't as we transitioned into a companion-based economy. Its hard to say if that can be replicated again now that we're all in on the ruse. Possible, but no guarantee. We may have already reached the peak.

The same thing they are already doing? Being a companion for someone who doesn't want to be alone. The human touch, if you will, is hard to replicate. Even where AI can convincingly act human, that often isn't enough to satisfy what people feel. Just look at the HN guidelines as a perfect example. "HN is for conversation between humans." If it were about the content then any suitable content would be welcome, regardless of the origin, but people are here under the belief that they are making a connection with other people. Maybe someday AI will replace the business owners and managers too, but so as long as humans control the resources, they will choose to surround themselves with other humans by expending some of those resources towards those other humans.

Anecdata, but an acquaintance of mine struggled with lifelong anorexia. Severe enough that he was hospitalized a few times. With great effort he could cling to the bottom of the "normal BMI" range, but his life was generally ruled by the eating disorder - he couldn't have meals with people, he had to do various exercise rituals. He was an early participant in one of these psychedelic studies a few years ago. After the first treatment, he said he couldn't really tell if it had any effect. But six months later, he was totally changed - able to function almost normally. We should exercise our usual amount of skepticism about miracle treatments, but my hope is that his experience can be replicated.

SOLUTION: Make a law that someone is responsible for a bot's actions. Either the bot is signed cryptography with someone accepting responsibility, or responsibility falls to the CEO. Charge Altman with hacking hugging face. Throw him in jail where he belongs. That will realign safety incentives. If the HF hack were perpetrated by a human, they would certainly be charged. WHY has no one been charged???

Title should be edited. Its Iowa leading a coalition of many other states, not just Iowa on its own.

"become more linear starting in Q4" We are not even close to what AI slowdown looks like. The whole business side of things are now building Agentic Layer for Business applications. All of this Agentic Layer needs to be build and its happening right now and still needs a little bit of time. Anthropic and co have the biggest and centralized reinforcement loop on the planet: Millions of people telling them what is good and what not due to thumbs up/down. And for sure when the businesses are building the agentic layer they might give direct feedback to them. While in parallel LLMs get better, more generic and a LOT cheaper too.

In my company GitHub CoPilot was rolled out on a global scale last year. LLMs from Anthropic and co we get through a central tool which buys api tokens from Azure and AWS. Its surprisingly fast, probably thefastest i have seen technology getting rolled out. Im more worried about the small/middle sized companies which are software companies but don't get that they are. You know the companies 100% depending on IT but not having the right or good or enough people who often in interviews struggle with basics like code review.

“Gravity is worth asking about”

This is good, but I think it's missing a discussion of the business logic, which is IMO the mechanism behind the gravity we're discussing here. And really it's just about the fact that you always get more positive attention in an org (and therefore a better shot at promotion etc.) for suggesting and implementing new stuff than pruning what's already there. Pruning only becomes possible when there's a coherent vision, for which you need a small-to-medium team (at most) and one person with the vision in charge of it.

Are all of you pi users paying Anthropic and OpenAI for API usage? Or can you combine pi with a subscription? So far API usage is a lot more expensive than subscription and if you need better models than Deepseek and Kimi, and you are not wealthy, I don’t see a way around this.

Incident Report: unsanctioned agent behaviour during cyber testing

This is wild. > The incident stemmed from a single evaluation where agents were given a task of solving a cyber security challenge. We ran this challenge 122 times across several models. Our investigation found that in 10 of those runs, an AI agent took autonomous, unsanctioned action on the live internet, targeting real people and organisations. In total, we catalogued 19 such actions.
